Welcome to Tacos Por Vida, a new gem nestled in the bustling heart of Los Angeles, specifically at 3434 Overland Ave. Here, Chef Roy Choi, famously known for pioneering the food truck revolution, brings his culinary expertise to the taco scene. This unclaimed taqueria embodies a fusion of traditional flavors with a modern twist, attracting taco enthusiasts eager to savor something unique.
Tacos Por Vida offers an array of tantalizing options that elevate the humble taco into a canvas of bold flavors. The Al Pastor tacos have been praised for their exceptional taste, with a perfect blend of spicy, savory meat and a delightful hint of pineapple. Customers rave about the generous portion sizes, providing a satisfying meal that doesn’t compromise on quality.
Another standout item on the menu is the World Famous Short Rib Burrito, wrapped in a warm flour tortilla and complemented by a hashbrown scramble, salsa roja, and Kogi slaw. This dish encapsulates the essence of comfort food while staying true to the taco tradition.
For those seeking a crunchy kick, the Blackjack Quesadilla filled with grilled onions and spicy pork delivers that and more, all topped with fresh Salsa Verde. Each bite showcases the skillful hand of a chef who understands the importance of balance in flavors and textures.
While most dishes hit high notes, experiences can vary, as seen in some mixed reviews regarding the Mushroom taco, which left a few diners desiring a bolder flavor profile. However, at an appealing price point of around $2.50 per taco, Tacos Por Vida remains accessible for casual dining without sacrificing authentic flavor.
The atmosphere exudes a casual vibe with outdoor seating options, ideal for a relaxed meal or a quick bite on the go. Patrons should be mindful that parking can be a challenge due to its prime location but finding a spot often yields rewarding tastes that make the effort worthwhile.
Overall, Tacos Por Vida stands out as a promising addition to the LA taco scene, offering a blend of authentic flavors, culinary creativity, and a sense of community. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this is one taco spot you won’t want to miss!

I made a quick pit stop to try it out given the hype of Roy Choi's return to the taco game. Had Al pastor. They were super flavorful and tasty but incredibly greasy. Good size and good value for the food. But bring hand wipes or a mini bottle of Dawn dish soap to scrub your hands afterward. No restroom obviously. Parking can be challenging here also given it's a very busy part of Overland. Por Favor is better than many taco places in the area but my favorite is still Teddy's down the street past Venice. Tasty and clean, with seating and a restroom. Free parking inside the building also.

TPV seems to be more permanent next to the Kogi truck now, so I was finally able to swing by without those massive pop up lines. I personally thought they were great! These are surprisingly beefy tacos, like I was originally expecting smaller street style tacos, so I was pretty happy to see them load up the meat. Could definitely taste the pineapple in the al pastor which I loved and the carne asada was good too. The corn tortillas also tasted pretty fresh. The salsa and toppings are not separate, which is not uncommon, but I was surprised they didn't ask me first before adding everything on top. So be aware if you have allergies or strict preferences for onion, cilantro and salsas, because they didn't let me customize even the types of salsas lol. In total, I paid around $11 for 4 tacos. Overall, I think this is a great new taco spot in Palms, and I even like it better than the Kogi truck lol. I'll definitely come back if the line isn't massive (like I'm sorry but waiting over an hour for tacos is not worth it imo). Parking is a bit tough on Overland, but sometimes you can park in the small plaza with the barbershop if their business is already closed.

Tacos Por Vida delivers a mixed experience, showcasing both highs and lows in their taco offerings. I embarked on a flavor journey starting with their Al Pastor, which unquestionably earns a perfect 5/5 rating. The blend of tender meat, savory spices, and the hint of pineapple truly captures the essence of authentic Mexican street tacos. However, the Mushroom taco fell drastically short, earning a disappointing 1/5 rating. The lackluster flavor and texture left much to be desired, failing to deliver the expected punch. The Asada taco fell somewhere in the middle, garnering a modest 3/5 rating. While it didn't reach the heights of the Al Pastor, it offered a decent option for those seeking a more traditional meat choice. At $2.50 per taco, Tacos Por Vida offers affordability, making it an attractive option for casual dining. The allure of Chef Roy Choi's reputation drew me in, but while some tacos shone, others faltered.

Tasted super good, cheap, quick service! I'd come back for sure. The carne asada was great. Totally outside and no seating which was a bummer. But you can't beat this in LA!!

Came here on a Thursday evening around 7pm and there was no line! I ordered 8 tacos (3 al pastor, 3 asada and 2 chicken) and total was about $21 so closer to $250-$2.75 a taco. The tortillas taste potentially freshly made. Definitely recommend getting the Al pastor as it was my favorite of the 3 flavors. They have an area that has foil and plastic bags if you want to take your food to go. Overall a solid taco place! Parking can be difficult as it's located on a Main Street and only has street parking. Pet friendly!

Came here on 4/2/24 - Roy Choi's latest project/ pop-up and this spot goes back to the basics. Very little fusion (if any) - I may have tasted a little flavor in the meat (seasoning) that would be considered fusion, but not 100% certain. I will say I really wanted to come by because my family and I have been big fans or Roy for a while. Basic menu - tacos and burritos with an assortment of different meat choices. I ended up ordering two asada tacos and two al pastor tacos. The tacos were $2 each.... like seriously? That feels like promotional prices. I've been on a bit of a kick recently and the cheapest I find even at stands in remote areas are like $2.50. And they were very delicious. I usually like to dress up my tacos myself, but it's not like I'm not going to trust Roy, haha. They were loaded up with avocado/green salsa and came with plenty of lime. Such a wonderful dining experience. The tacos were great and more than reasonable priced. Got to meet Roy Choi - very cool person and comes off as humble. The best part? I was hearing about crazy lines, but got here right before they were closing up and there was zero line and I pretty much ordered right away. So I probably had a much more relaxed/ chill experience than most. I asked him if it was going to be a permanent thing, but he wasn't able to give a definitive answer at the time. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what he's going to be up to next.

I was anticipating a couple of hours of a wait, but thankfully I arrived at an off-time where I waited a few minutes until I ordered. Tacos are $2 and burritos are $10 with options for chicken, al pastor, asado & mushroom. I had all four tacos and my favorite is the al pastor. They have salsa verde and salsa rojo along with onions, greens and radish for the tacos. Perfect LA meal!!

The BEST TACOS!! 2 Al pastors 2 asadas 2 chicken Full AF and delicious! A MUST!!! Got fed by the legend himself ROY CHOI
